Board Certified Female Plastic Surgeon, The Woodlands, Kingwood, Dr. Sugene Kim
Dr. Sugene Kim brings extensive training from Washington, DC, New York City, and the Texas Medical Center MD Anderson Cancer Center to the North Houston communities. Specifically, she is one of the few plastic surgeons in region outside the Texas Medical Center who completed the prestigious microsurgery fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center where she focused heavily on advanced techniques in breast reconstruction including muscle-sparing tissue only DIEP flap reconstructions.
She served as a clinical specialist at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Most recently, Dr. Kim teamed up with Dr. Basu to pioneer and successfully perform the first DIEP flap breast reconstruction in The Woodlands at the Memorial Hermann – The Woodlands Hospital in August 2008. In addition to her highly specialized training in breast reconstruction, she provide the woman’s perspective on breast reconstruction and restoration after cancer treatment.
Dr. Kim graduated magna cum laude from Yale University (New Haven CT) and she earned her M.D. degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. Double board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Kim completed an internship and residency in General Surgery at Georgetown University Hospital.
She returned to New York to complete her fellowship in cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine / Montefiore Medical Center in New York. In addition, she completed cosmetic surgery rotations at New York City’s prestigious Manhattan Eye and Ear Infirmary. She also completed her fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery and served as a clinical specialist at the prestigious M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Kim has received numerous honors including a “Mother of Pearls Award” for the Best Resident Teacher among 450 residents at the Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. Kim cherishes the opportunity to educate health care professionals, community members, and patients to increase awareness of options available to women for restoration after breast cancer.
