Lumpectomy Reconstruction
Lumpectomy reconstruction involves surgical removal of a small tumor (a lump) which may or may not be malignant. The term has come to refer specially to the removal of a lump from the breast.
Initially a wide local excision is made that removes the area of breast cancer and a surrounding healthy area of tissue. Once it is confirmed that all the cancer has been removed, there are options to rebuild the area of excision either before or after radiation treatment.
